STAYCATIONS

I've collaborated with Soulful-Travel.com to give some useful thoughts and tips on Staycationing.

Staycations That Will Let You Stretch Your Wings

COVID-19 is forcing many people to cancel planned vacations, but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy yourself with a safe and enjoyable staycation. Whether you plan fun activities in your own home or opt for safe outings to local attractions, making time for enjoyable pursuits is an important self-care practice that is critical to enduring the pandemic.

Staycation At Home

While it might seem like the last thing you want to do after being sequestered in your home for so long, when safety is a top priority, you can still create an enjoyable getaway right in your own space. Make a commitment to tune out by limiting your personal screen time and let friends and family know you'll be “off the grid” so you won't be subjected to unwanted interruptions or intrusions. Plan in-home spa treatments, gourmet meal deliveries, and treating yourself to your favorite luxuries. This is a time to splurge on yourself so you feel relaxed and pampered.

Explore Local Staycation Activities

Pretend you’re a tourist planning to visit your own city. There are likely local attractions nearby, like museums and outdoor recreational opportunities, that other people come from far and wide to enjoy and that you may not regularly explore. Make an itinerary, and enjoy the sights and wonders of your own area — while honoring recommended safety precautions, of course. While you might not be able to physically stay in a hotel or vacation rental, there may be some options in your area that you would be comfortable with. Call in advance to check restrictions, and consult the UK Government travel advisory page for up-to-date information.

Make Short Road Trips

Day trips can be great breaks from daily life and allow you to get out and about without investing too much time or money. For example, visiting a historical site, watching a sunset from the perfect location, biking in a beautiful spot, or enjoying a picnic lunch can be fun. Trip Advisor U.K. offers a wealth of information on the best scenic drives. If you have friends or relatives within a half-day drive, pack up the car, put on your favorite playlist, and make a brief, socially-distanced visit. Not only will you enjoy yourselves and see some beautiful sites, but you’ll make someone else’s day enjoyable, as well.

Enjoy The Great Outdoors

One way to socially distance from others is to go camping, hiking, or backpacking close to home. Use a trail-finding app or connect with your local tourism bureau for information about recreation sites that are open to the public. Renting a recreational vehicle is another good way to get out and about without having to worry about coming into close contact with others. Communing with nature can be a wonderful way to refresh and recharge your mind, body, and soul.

Refresh Your Space

Whether you staycation at home or venture out, carve out time to give your house a good cleaning from top to bottom — to clear out bad energy, tidy your surroundings, and create a refreshed environment. Do a sage smudge, open the windows, let in fresh air, and maybe even rearrange your furniture and knick-knacks to give your place a brand new look and vibe. You’ll be surprised at how rejuvenated it will make you feel.

At some point in the future, we’ll all be able to explore exotic locations farther from home. When you’re ready to get back into “regular” vacation mode, book your next exciting venture at globetrottingbrit.com. In the meantime, learn more about the top vacay spots where you are and start planning!
